Abstract

Recent trends in weather sections of major newspapers in 14 cities were examined for the period 1982-1985 for possible effects the colourful, full-page weather package in USA Today may have had on weather pages. Weather maps in many newspapers were modified in some way - by enlargement and use of graphically more pleasing techniques. The biggest impact was the use of regional maps to provide more 'local' information, so the emergence of a regional strategy in presenting the weather may be the biggest legacy. - after Authors
