Abstract

New measurements are presented of the viscosity of binary, gaseous mixtures of the three saturated hydrocarbons ethane, propane, and normal-butane with other polyatomic gases. Specifically, the systems studied are: C//2H//6-N//2,C//2H//6-CO//2,C//2H//6-CF//4, C//2H//6-SF//6, C//3H//8-N//2, C//3H//8-CO//2, n-C//4H//1//0-N//2, and n-C//4H//1//0-CO//2. The measurements have been carried out near atmospheric pressure in the temperature range 25-195 degree C in a high precision oscillating-disk viscometer. The accuracy of the reported values of viscosity is estimated as one of plus or minus 0. 3%. Previous work has proved that each of the pure components conforms to the extended law of corresponding states formulated by J. Kestin, S. T. Ro, and W. A. Wakeham. The measurements demonstrate that the same is true for the interactions among unlike pairs of molecules of the pure components.
