Trapped ultracold atoms make perfect quantum metamaterials

Abstract

We introduce a novel platform for quantum metamaterial by engineering the electromagnetic response of ultracold atoms loaded in an artificial crystal of light. Our proposal opens the door for applications at single-photon level with metamaterials.
