Abstract

Increasing competition in the world economy has resulted in a focussed approach towards improving product quality. The quality of a product can be specified in terms of the tolerance assignments on the product. In this paper, the role and relevance of tolerance synthesis in a product design system have been studied. A system architecture for a tolerance synthesis module has been presented in the context of a product design system. This paper also discusses the implementational issues of developing the tolerance synthesis module in a knowledge engineering based CAD system (Concept Modeller package).
