Abstract

In this paper, we consider throughput optimization in wireless networks with multiple mutually interfering transceiver pairs. Sufficient conditions, in terms of channel coefficients and power constraints, are derived for the sum rate optimality of single user detection in an m-user Gaussian interference channel. In other words, under those conditions, it is optimal in terms of throughput for each receiver to simply treat interference as noise. The result can also be generalized to parallel interference channels and a unifying power allocation scheme is presented for throughput optimization for parallel single and multiuser Gaussian channels.
