Abstract

The reaction of copper with 1,2-ethylene diphosphonic acid and 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine and o-phenanthroline under hydrothermal conditions resulted in the one-dimensional [Cu(terpy)(HO3PCH2CH2PO3H)] ·4H2O (1·4H2O) and the molecular species [{Cu(phen)(H2O)}2(O3PCH2CH 2PO3)]·9H2O (2·9H2O), which were isolated by slow evaporation. Crystal data: (1·4H2O) C17H21CuN3O8P2, triclinic, P1̄; a=10.6468(6) Å, b=14.2195(7) Å, c=14.2906(7) Å, α=73.466(1)°, β=89.020(1)°, γ=71.597(1)°, V=1961.7(2) Å3, Z=4; (2·9H2O) C26H42Cu2N4O17P 2, orthorhombic, Pna21; a=14.4018(6) Å, b=11.9020(5) Å, c=20.6049(8) Å, V=3531.9(2) Å3, Z=4.
