THE REFLECT STEP: Consolidating Learning and Setting Future Goals

Research output: Chapter in Book/Entry/PoemChapter

Abstract

This chapter overviews important goals for the reflect step of lesson study, contrasting reflect in in-service teacher practice with its use in preservice teacher education. Additionally, it summarizes teacher educators’ practices as articulated with the Lesson Study for Mathematics and Science Teacher Educators’ Conference, explaining the differences between reflecting on lessons taught in K-12 classrooms versus those taught on campus via microteaching. It then describes two cases of our use of the reflect step with preservice teachers, again explaining differences between microteaching lesson study and research lessons with K-12 students. The chapter ends with comments about how to link together the lesson study steps through reflect.
