Abstract

Reaction of [(C4H9)4N]2Mo2O7 with hydrazones, R2CNNH2, yields the novel MoV/MoVI mixed valence octanuclear polyoxomolybdate, [(C4H9)4N]4[Mo8O24(OCH3)2]· CH3OH· H2O. The structure of the anionic cluster consists of a tetranuclear core [Mo4O8 (OR)2]4+ of edge-sharing Mo octahedra, coordinated to two bridging dipodal [MoO4]2- units and two corner sharing [MoO4]2- units. Crystal data: P21/n space group, with a = 17.166(2), b = 15.719(2), c = 18.933(3) Å, β = 95.08(1)°, V = 5088.9(8) Å3, Z = 2, Dcalc = 1.46 g cm-3. Structure solution and refinement based on 3626 reflections, R = 0.068.
