Abstract

Treatment of α-(NR4)4[Mo8O 26] with an excess of phenylhydrazine in ethanol and fractional crystallization yielded a tetranuclear species, [Mo4O 8(OEt)2(NNPh)4]2-, with bridging ethoxy groups, and an octanuclear complex, [Mo8O20(NNPh) 6]4-, structurally related to the α-[Mo 8O26]4- precursor, as determined by X-ray crystallography; the structure of the Mo8 precursor is reported.
