Structural Optimization with Isogeometric Representation using an Evolutionary Approach

Abstract

The engineering design of optimal geometric structures is a challenging task, successfully addressed here by evolutionary optimization in conjunction with Isogeometric Analysis. The structures are represented using three-dimensional volumetric Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines, and their geometric features are chosen as the decision variables for optimization under linear constraints. A clustering and nearest neighbor search-based surrogate model is adopted to reduce computational expense.
