Abstract

The hydrothermal reaction of silver nitrate with trans-1-(2-pyridyl)-2-(4-pyridyl)ethylene (2,4-bpye) yields a new Ag(I) organodiimine coordination complex polymer [Ag(NO3)(2,4′-bpye)]. The structure of the complex is constructed from one-dimensional {Ag(2,4′-bpye)}nn+ sinusoidal chains in which the Ag(I) site has a distorted trigonal or 'T' shaped geometry through bonding to two pyridyl nitrogen atoms from the ligand and an oxygen from the nitrate anion. Crystal data: orthorhombic Pna21, a = 10.9754(6), b = 16.0285(9), c = 13.3326(8) Å, Z = 4, V = 2345.5 Å3, Dcalc = 1.994 g cm3, R1 = 0.0633.
