Abstract

IN continuation of work1-3 on the stereochemistry of Krebs-cycle reactions, the stereochemistry of the succinic dehydrogenase reaction has been investigated with substrates that constrain the enzyme system to demonstrate its stereospecificity. These substrates are L-chlorosuccinic acid, newly found by us, and the L-enantiomorph of methylsuccinic acid; the racemic modification of the latter having been previously demonstrated4,5 to decolorize methylene blue in the crude heart preparations.
