Abstract

This paper describes the theoretical investigation of the distortion of a Gaussian pulse when the pulse propagates in a gyromagnetic medium with an arbitrary direction of an external magnetic field. The phase velocity in this medium is a nonlinear function of frequency and thus causes the dispersion of the spectral components of the pulse. An analysis of dispersion characteristics of a gyromagnetic medium is given. The propagation and distortion of type I and type II wave pulses are investigated. Numerical results show the possibility of controlling the dispersion characteristics and pulse distortion by varying the external magnetic field.
