Abstract
The method of moments provides a way of converting an operator equation to a matrix equation that is easily solved. However, the routine use of matrix methods can yield incorrect answers. The author illustrates the pitfalls of matrix methods and provides an alternate, iterative method of solving an operator equation that guarantees convergence.
