Abstract

In 2013, NASA commissioned a study to identify the impediments to and improvements required for a CFD-centric simulation-based engineering design process by the year 2030. The study had seven findings and made six programmatic recommendations. Since two of the report’s findings centered on meshing and computational environments, AIAA’s Meshing, Visualization, and Computational Environments Technical Committee decided to establish a series of workshops to determine if the necessary improvements were being made in order to reach the 2030 goals. Already there have been three full workshops and a mini-workshop, with the last occurring in 2022. This paper describes the history of the workshops and identifies several challenges that could be addressed by the next workshop, tentatively scheduled for 2025.
