Preparation and characterization of macropolyhedral metallaborane clusters from the anti-B18H22 borane cluster: Crystal structure of [(CH3)4N][anti-B18H20Co(CO)3 ]

Abstract

The preparation of macropolyhedral metallaborane clusters from the anti-B18H22 Borane cluster was discussed. The reaction of anti-B18H22 with [Co2(CO)8] and [η5-C5H5)Fe(CO)2(C6 H10)]+ yields the macropolyhedral metallaboranes [anti-B18H20Co(CO)3][(CH3) 4N] (1) and [9-(Fe(CO)25-C5H5))-anti- B18H21]. Single crystal x-ray diffraction analysis of complex (1) showed that the structure consists of an 11-vertex nido-cobaltaborane subunit edge shared with a 10-vertex nido-borane fragment.
