Abstract

Using a perturbational analysis, we solve the Kukhtarev equation to analyze the transient process of holographic write-in and read-out in a photorefractive material. The diffraction efficiency as a function of various write and read conditions is discussed. Results show that the diffraction efficiency may be designed to either increase or decrease initially during the reading process. Furthermore, the diffracted light is frequency-shifted according to the applied external electric field.
