Abstract

Presents a mathematical technique useful in describing internal flow problems with gas turbine applications. The technique involves expanding a given flow variable or part of it in a series of periodic generalized functions. Via this 'smoothing' expansion technique, the highly nonlinear and singular nature of the flow field can be determined efficiently and accurately. As an illustration, an application of the technique for the design problems for a highly loaded cascade of infinitely thin blades in the two dimensional limit is briefly described. A more complete description of the design technique of blades having finite thickness is given in the second paper. (A)
