Abstract
In this paper, we present an efficient method for the performance evaluation of HIPPI interconnection system implementing a camp-on strategy. The camp-on feature has been defined in the HIPPI standards and implemented in switching designs but no performance analysis results have been published to the best of our knowledge. We model the system with only a fixed number of states. This reduction in the size of the state space has a direct impact on the computational time required. Our new models allow us to analyze the system not only with uniform traffic, but with many other different traffic patterns including uniform traffic, hot-spot traffic, general traffic pattern, locality of reference, etc. Moreover, we compare the performance of the camp-on and drop strategies and demonstrate that the camp-on outperforms the drop strategy.
