abstract = "The fear of many advocates was whether Trump would terminate the sea-level effort since it was clearly a climate mission. Freilich protected the sea-level satellites, including those for glacial melt observation, in behind-the-scenes negotiations with the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and Congress. Trump did seek to kill a number of climate satellites each year he was president and failed as Congress put back the money he extracted. Freilich retired in 2019 and soon after, in 2020, died. Europe and NASA honored his memory by naming the satellite he had helped make possible Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich. It launched in 2020, with a duplicate to follow later in the decade.",
