Abstract
The hydrothermal reactions of zinc oxide, phosphoric acid, sodium orthovanadate, and the appropriate polyimine ligand at 200°C for 95, 68, and 42.5 h, respectively, have yielded three novel compounds, [Zn(bpy)(VO2)(PO4)] (1), [Zn(terpy)(VO2)(PO4)] (2), and [Zn(o-phen)(ZnVO)(PO4)2] (3). Compounds 1 and 2 are both one-dimensional chains with discreet {V2P2O4} rings linked through zinc organoimine components. Compound 3 exhibits unusual {V2P4O18} subunits which are bound through fully bridging zinc tetrahedra to form a two-dimensional sheet. The sheet is further surface decorated by {Zn(o-phen)}2+ moieties.
