Abstract

Hexagonal Co9S8 single crystal flake was synthesized in hydrazine hydrate (N2H4·H2O) solvent at 180°C for 72 h by hydrothermal method using cobalt sulfate hydrate (CoSO4·7H2O) and anhydrous sodium sulfate (Na2SO3) as the starting materials. The as-prepared Co9S8 samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) transmission electron microscope (TEM) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The results show that the samples are mainly composed of hexagonal Co9S8 single crystal flakes with diameters of 0.8-1.5/Mm.The suitable reaction temperature and reaction time for growing Co9S8 single crystals is 180°C and 72h respectively. The saturation magnetization (Ms) and coercivity (Hc) values of the sample are 65 emu /g and 333 Oe under the room temperature respectively.
