Abstract

Expert systems can be developed and operated on personal computers to aid in the design of the geotextile filter component of pavement edge drains. The expanding use of geotextiles in infrastructure construction and renovation presents the opportunity to combine the technologies to develop a computer tool to assist in the design of pavement systems. The 'Edge Drain by Expert System' (EDxES) software system is a first step in this direction.
