Abstract
In this theoretical study, the concepts of fracture mechanics have been used to analyze the fracture toughness of polycarbonate in terms of the polymer relaxation properties. By considering the temperature rise at the tip of a growing crack; a model is proposed which describes the viscoelastic energy loss in the fracture process. The model was used to predict the fracture toughness of polycarbonate as a function of test temperature.
