Abstract
This paper describes measurements of the effects of Los Angeles as a pollutant source on the surrounding non-urban areas. Of particular interest were the coastal waters, which are of economic, recreational and aesthetic importance to the area as a whole. The authors have studied the mass flows of Pb, Zn, Cd and Ni to these waters and also to the mountains and deserts surrounding the Los Angeles basin.
