Abstract

Multiple planes of stereoscopic particle image velocimetry were collected across the wakes of rigid, trapezoidal panels with varying trailing edge geometries that were pitched about their leading edge. Convex and concave trailing edge geometries were chosen in order to compare wake structures with the wakes produced by similar trapezoidal pitching panels with square, or vertical, trailing edges. Results show that the introduction of variation to the trailing edge shape significantly alters the overall wake structure and behavior. Coherent spanwise structures are shed from the trailing edge of the panel and assume an orientation that matches the concavity or convexity of the trailing edge.
