Funding Information: In this article, we report findings from a survey conducted by the Baltimore City Department of Social Services in conjunction with researchers at the University of Maryland School of Social Work and Community Planning. This survey was part of a larger study (funded by the Andrus Foundation of the American Association of Retired Persons) whose overall purpose was to help clarify the role of general assistance programs for persons aged 50 and over. The data produced by the Baltimore City survey allowed us to estimate the additional costs to the State of Maryland resulting from recent federal disability terminations from March 1981 and through November 1983.",
