Abstract

This paper describes how "WPT tools", a web-based planning and writing supporting system, help English Second Language (ESL) learners planning and writing. This study consists of three stages. At the First stage, the difficulty of writing for L1 (Native Language) and L2 (Foreign Language) and the importance of planning were analyzed using related research. At the second part, pros and cons of the Concordancer, which is the sentence example providing system, was analyzed and the pros were applied to the WPT tools. Third, WPT tools design and development are explained. Especially, writing pattern template module, the WPT tools unique function, is explained. If students define the sentence property (e.g., example, explanation, etc.) or add main keywords at the outline process, then the writing pattern template module suggests the writing pattern and examples that fit the property in the writing process. The positive implications of WPT tools for the ESL learner will be measured next round.
