Abstract

Artificial magnetic conductor as a ground plane realized by split ring resonators is proposed to improve the strength of the radiating fields along the ground plane from a horizontally oriented dipole antenna placed close to it. Simulation results show that although the gain along the ground plane can be improved, but its performance is valid over an extremely narrow bandwidth. However, the gain of the dipole is much higher than when it is operating in free space. Hence, in the design of such systems attention must be paid in the tradeoff between the gain and bandwidth of the dipóle operating over an artificial magnetic conductor.
