Abstract

The electrochemical oxidation of anodic metals, gallium, indium or thallium, in an acetonitrile solution of 1-hydroxopyridine-2-thione (HPT) affords [Ga(PT)3], [In(PT)3], [Tl(PT)3] and [Tl(PT)]. The crystal structures of [In(PT)3] and [Tl(PT)3] were determined by X-ray diffraction. The compounds consist of monomeric molecules in which the central MO3S3 units (M=In, Tl) have distorted octahedral environments. IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectra of the complexes are discussed and related to the structure. 205Tl NMR spectra of thallium complexes are also presented.
