Abstract

In this paper, we describe procedures in determining distributed signaling scheme for a bandwidth constrained sensor network. In particular, for a decentralized detection problem and assuming an on/off keying at each sensor and with a per-sensor communication constraint, we derive necessary conditions for optimal distributed on/off keying at local sensors. The formulation and the obtained necessary conditions lead to a person-by-person optimal design which minimizes the average error probability at the fusion center. Numerical results are presented to study the impact of the communication constraint on the sensor censoring scheme and the detection performance.
