Debonding of a inhomogeneity from a plastic matrix

Research output: Chapter in Book/Entry/PoemConference contribution

Abstract

Inclusion debonding is addressed through the formulation and solution of the planar elastic and elastic uniform plastic problems. These problems are variants of the standard transformation and inhomogeneity problems of Eshelby however, unlike the standard problems which assume a coherent inclusion-matrix interface, the present work allows for debonding by assuming that the inclusion interacts with the matrix through an interfacial traction which depends on the displacement jump at the interface. By studying the character of the displacement jump for a prescribed remote load, uniform plastic strain and interface force law an understanding of the nature of the debonding process, and the physical and geometrical parameters influencing it, may be obtained.
