Abstract
A model system was derived consisting of two Lorenz oscillators linearly coupled. When the temperature differences for both are equal, coexisting stable, steady convective states exist for a range of Rayleigh numbers. These correspond to cocurrent and countercurrent flows. When the system jumps from the former to the latter, there is flow reversal in one oscillator and a reduction in the heat transport in the system.
