Abstract

It has been found that, in order to obtain an accurate causal response for a multiconductor transmission line, extremely accurate characterization of the complex dielectric permittivity is required. In the present work, the Hilbert transform was used to enforce the causality requirements on the time-dependent TEM (transverse electromagnetic) fields of the transmission line. It is shown that it is possible to compute the time domain response of a multiconductor transmission line very accurately without accurate knowledge of the frequency-dependent material properties.
