Abstract
The design of reliable and fault-tolerant resource management algorithms for cellular networks Is an Important Issue. In this paper, we develop an adaptive fault tolerance scheme via the combination of reuse partitioning and dynamic bandwidth assignment strategies. Our fault tolerance approach provides a trade off between fault tolerance capability and the total carried traffic in cellular networks. Bandwidth management during base station failures is dynamic and is based on real time estimates of current network conditions. Our online algorithm Is quite flexible, is responsive to current traffic conditions, and tries to strike an appropriate performance balance between contradictory requirements for QoS sensitive multimedia services. With a simulation study, we demonstrate the excellent performance of our scheme for diverse scenarios including failure modes.
