Advanced LIGO: Precision measurement for astronomy

Abstract

The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) is currently installing the Advanced LIGO interferometers, designed to measure the space-time distortions due to binary neutron star mergers. I will discuss the required technology and give an update on the installation progress
