Abstract

Bandwidth is an extremely valuable and scarce resource in multimedia networks. Therefore, efficient bandwidth management is necessary in order to provide high quality service to users in a multimedia network. In this paper, we propose new online bandwidth management algorithms for adaptation and reservation. Our on-line approach is dynamic and flexible that responds to current network conditions. In addition, proposed algorithms are combined in an integrated framework where they are able to cooperate with each other to strike an appropriate network performance balance between contradictory QoS requirements. With a simulation study, we demonstrate the excellent performance of our scheme under widely diverse traffic load intensities.
