Abstract

The title compound, [Cu(CH3COO)2(C10H 8N2)(H2O)]n, is a one-dimensional coordination polymer containing square-pyramidally coordinated Cu bound to two N atoms from two 3,3′-bipyridine molecules, two O atoms from two distinct monodentate acetate anions, and one O atom from an aqua ligand. Anti-conformation 3,3′-bipyridine units link the CuII atoms into chain motifs that run parallel to the a crystal axis. These arrange into layers parallel to the ac crystal plane through supramolecular hydrogen bonding.
