This presentation provides an overview of the neurophysiological mechanism of change associated with mindful yoga practice and how these changes can both prevent, and support recovery of, addictive behaviors. Dr. Bergen-Cico presents original research on mindful yoga interventions and illustrates how the changes in neural networks relate to yoga practices and addiction recovery. As a result of participating in this session, attendees will:
Become familiar with yogic and mindfulness-based practices for prevention and recovery
Understand the role of mindful yoga in fostering resiliency and recovery and how to cultivate it in their practices
Understand how trauma and addictive behaviors relate to one another
Understand what mindfulness-based practices are and how they help restore safety in the mind and body
