Description
In this workshop, elder justice advocates will share recent research, ideas for innovative practices, and a pilot project for addressing elder abuse and financial exploitation in the Central New York region and in the state of Maine. We will summarize and discuss the current state of research on restorative justice and its potential uses in addressing elder abuse; review and discuss findings from a recent interview study of service providers working with abused and exploited older adults inthe Central New York area; and share their perspectives on using restorative practices to address elder abuse. We will also talk about CAPSTONE, a recently launched statewide intervention research project grounded in the principles of restorative justice and through which restorative practices will be offered to APS clients. Finally, participants will have a chance to discuss the applicability of restorative practices in addressing elder abuse and exploitation.
